Short explanation

Sediment is deposited in coastal areas due to a combination of factors including wave energy, tidal movements, and the characteristics of the coastline. When waves lose energy, they can no longer carry sediment, leading to deposition. Additionally, sediment can accumulate in areas where the coastline is sheltered from strong wave action, such as bays and estuaries. The type of sediment, influenced by the geology of the area, also plays a role; finer materials are more easily deposited than coarser ones. Overall, the balance between erosion and deposition shapes the coastal landscape.
