Method

Method to Investigate Seed Germination

1. Place 10 seeds on moist filter paper in a Petri dish. 2. Keep the Petri dish in a warm place (25°C). 3. Observe and record the number of seeds that germinate after 3 days. 4. Repeat the experiment with seeds kept in a cold place (5°C). 5. Ensure all other conditions (water, oxygen) are the same.

  1. a

Identify the independent variable in this investigation.

Aim for approximately 1 distinct marking point.

    [1]
  2. b

Describe how you would ensure that oxygen is available to the seeds during the experiment.

Aim for approximately 2 distinct marking points.
