For Christians, Jesus Christ is the central figure of their faith. He is believed to be the Son of God, the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament, and the saviour of humanity. His life, teachings, death, and resurrection form the core of Christian doctrine and practice. Christians believe Jesus' birth, as the incarnation of God, brought God into human history in a unique way. His life, as recorded in the Gospels, demonstrates perfect obedience to God's will and provides a moral example for all believers. His teachings, such as the Sermon on the Mount, offer guidance on ethics, love, and spiritual living. The crucifixion of Jesus is understood as an atoning sacrifice, wherein he took on the sins of humanity, offering forgiveness and reconciliation with God. The resurrection of Jesus three days after his death is seen as a victory over sin and death, promising eternal life to those who believe in him. This belief in the resurrection is so fundamental that it underpins the Christian hope for salvation and future life with God. Consequently, Jesus Christ is not just a historical figure, but a living presence, worshipped and honoured as God.

The 'Nature of God' focuses on the characteristics and attributes that religious traditions, particularly Christianity, ascribe to God. These attributes help believers understand who God is and how God relates to the world and humanity. Key attributes include omnipotence (all-powerful), omniscience (all-knowing), omnipresence (present everywhere), omnibenevolence (all-good/all-loving), and transcendence (existing outside and beyond the universe). God is also often described as immanent (active within the world), eternal (without beginning or end), and personal (able to have a relationship with individuals). Some traditions also emphasise God's justice, holiness, and mercy. Understanding these characteristics is crucial for explaining religious beliefs about creation, salvation, and the purpose of life. For example, God's omnipotence and omniscience are central to the belief that God created the universe and knows everything that happens within it. God's omnibenevolence is key to understanding the concept of divine love and forgiveness. The tension between some attributes, such as God's omnipotence and omnibenevolence in the face of suffering (the problem of evil), is also a significant area of study. Religious texts, theological reflections, and personal experiences often form the basis for these understandings of God's nature.
