Description

Ionic Bonding

Sodium (Na) from Group I loses one electron to become Na⁺, while chlorine (Cl) from Group VII gains that electron to become Cl⁻. The resulting Na⁺ and Cl⁻ ions attract each other, forming sodium chloride (NaCl).

  1. a

Explain how ionic bonds are formed between sodium and chlorine using a dot-and-cross diagram.

Aim for approximately 3 distinct marking points.
