What this unit covers

  • Create a data model: Develop a data model. Students should be capable of: Notes and Guidance Creating and modifying a spreadsheet model, adding and removing cells, rows, and columns, and merging cells. Formulating calculations using cell references and replicating these calculations with both absolute and relative references as necessary. Employing arithmetic operators in calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and exponentiation. Utilizing named cells and ranges. Applying functions such as sum, average, maximum, minimum, integer, rounding, counting, LOOKUP, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, and IF. Incorporating external data sources within functions and using nested functions. Students should comprehend: The distinction between formulae and functions, the order of operations in mathematical calculations, including the use of brackets to ensure correct formula execution, and the characteristics and application of absolute and relative cell referencing.
  • Manipulate data: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to manipulate data by sorting it in either ascending or descending order based on one or more criteria. They should also be able to search for and select specific subsets of data using one or more criteria, employing various operators such as AND, OR, NOT, >, <, =, >=, <=, and <>. Additionally, candidates should be capable of performing searches that utilize wildcards.
  • Present data: Present data effectively. Students should be capable of: Adjusting display features to show either formulas or values, modifying row heights, column widths, and cell sizes to ensure all data, labels, and formulas are visible, wrapping text within cells for full visibility, hiding and displaying rows and columns, enhancing spreadsheet appearance through text color, cell color, bold, underline, italic, and shading, formatting numeric data correctly to show the desired number of decimal places, various currency symbols, and percentages, using conditional formatting to alter display based on cell content, and setting page layout by choosing portrait or landscape orientation, managing print layout including specifying the number of pages, print area, and whether to display or hide gridlines and row and column headings.
