Learning objective

Learners should comprehend the importance of testing a system prior to its deployment. They should be familiar with creating test designs, strategies, and plans that include test data, expected results, actual results, and corrective measures. This includes testing data structures, file structures, input formats, output formats, and validation routines. They should understand strategies for testing each module, function, and the entire system. Additionally, they should know the definition, characteristics, and application of test data, which encompasses normal, abnormal, and extreme data, as well as the use of live data.

Read the explanation, check the common trap, then practise with flashcards and questions.

Testing Method for Data Entry System

The developer will enter different types of test data into the system, record the actual output, compare it with the expected output, and note any discrepancies. If errors are found, corrective actions will be taken and retesting performed.

StepDescription
1Prepare test data sets (normal, abnormal, extreme)
2Input test data into the system
3Record actual output
4Compare actual output with expected output
5Identify errors and take corrective measures
6Retest corrected parts
  1. a

Identify the independent variable in this testing method.

Aim for approximately 1 distinct marking point.

  2. b

Describe how the developer ensures the reliability of the test results.

Aim for approximately 2 distinct marking points.

    [2]
  3. c

Suggest one improvement to increase the accuracy of the testing method.

Aim for approximately 1 distinct marking point.
