What this unit covers

  • Introduction to probability: 1 Comprehend and apply the probability scale ranging from P(A) = 0 to P(A) = 1, where P(A') represents the probability of the event not occurring. 2 Recognize and utilize probability notation. 3 Compute the probability of a single event, expressing probabilities as fractions, decimals, or percentages, and solving problems that may involve data from tables, graphs, or Venn diagrams. 4 Grasp that if the probability of an event is P(B) = 0.8, then the probability of event B not occurring is calculated as 1 - P(B).
  • Probability of combined events: Calculate the probability of combined events, which may include scenarios with or without replacement. This can be represented using sample space diagrams, Venn diagrams (where the notation P(A ∩ B) and P(A ∪ B) can be applied), and tree diagrams, where outcomes are indicated at the ends of branches and probabilities are noted alongside the branches.
  • Conditional probability: Determine conditional probability using Venn diagrams, tree diagrams, and tables, while understanding the notation P(A|B). Knowledge of the formulas related to conditional probability is not necessary.
