What this unit covers
- Interpreting statistical data: 1 Analyze, interpret, and make deductions from tables and statistical diagrams. 2 Evaluate and compare data sets using tables and graphs, including comparing averages and measures of spread between two data sets. 3 Understand the limitations of making conclusions based on provided data.
- Averages and measures of spread: 1 Compute the mean, median, mode, quartiles, range, and interquartile range for individual datasets and explain the different uses of each measure. 2 Estimate the mean for both grouped discrete and grouped continuous data. 3 Determine the modal class from a grouped frequency distribution.
- Cumulative frequency diagrams: Create and analyze cumulative frequency tables and diagrams. Ensure that plotted points on the cumulative frequency diagram are clearly indicated, such as with small crosses (×), and connect these points with a smooth curve. Use the cumulative frequency diagrams to estimate and interpret the median, percentiles, quartiles, and interquartile range.
- Histograms: 1 Create and analyze histograms, ensuring the vertical axis is marked as 'Frequency density'. 2 Perform calculations involving frequency density, which is determined by dividing frequency by class width.
