What this unit covers
- Christianity as a religion that shows concern for others: Christianity emphasizes caring for others, highlighting teachings on love, compassion, and concern. This includes: (a) the idea of agape, or unconditional love, as presented in the gospels; (b) adhering to Jesus' teachings regarding the love of God and neighbor, known as the Two Greatest Commandments; (c) serving others through personal contributions of time, effort, and financial support.
- Christian stewardship of the environment: Understanding the idea that humans are caretakers of the Earth on behalf of God, and recognizing that God is the creator of all things, which places the responsibility on humanity to look after the environment. Note: This objective specifically addresses Christian stewardship of the environment and does not cover ethical discussions regarding animal treatment.
- Christian organisations that relieve poverty: Identify and discuss Christian organizations that work to alleviate poverty, including Tearfund, Caritas, and Christian Aid, as well as local groups specific to any country. Explore how various Christian communities address both the spiritual and physical needs of individuals affected by poverty or disasters, and examine the motivations behind Christian missionary efforts and organized charity based on religious teachings.
