Quick explanation

Identify the correct equipment used to measure time, temperature, mass, and volume, which includes: (a) stopwatches (b) thermometers (c) balances (d) burettes (e) volumetric pipettes (f) measuring cylinders (g) gas syringes

  • This point belongs to Experimental design, especially Experimental design outcomes.
  • You need to be able to identify the correct equipment used to measure time, temperature, mass, and volume, which includes: (a) stopwatches (b) thermometers (c) balances (d) burettes (e) volumetric pipettes (f) measuring cylinders (g) gas syringes.
  • The key ideas to know are Identify and List.
  • Use the linked flashcards and practice questions to check recall, then practise applying the idea in an exam-style answer.

Method

Method for Measuring Temperature Change

In a reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, the temperature change is measured using a thermometer. The initial temperature of the acid is recorded before the sodium hydroxide is added. After mixing, the maximum temperature is recorded.
