What this unit covers
- Electrical quantities: Identify that there are two types of electric charges: positive and negative.
- Electrical quantities: Recognize that like charges repel each other while opposite charges attract each other.
- Electrical circuits: Create and understand circuit diagrams that include cells, batteries, power supplies, switches, resistors (both fixed and variable), heaters, lamps, motors, ammeters, voltmeters, and fuses, and recognize how these components function within the circuit.
- Electrical circuits: Understand that in a series circuit, the current remains constant at all points.
- Electrical safety: Explain how electric current generates heat.
- Electrical safety: Identify the dangers associated with: (a) damaged insulation (b) overheating of cables (c) wet environments (d) excessive current due to overloaded plugs, extension leads, and sockets when connected to mains power.
- Cells, batteries, generators and motors: Understand that cells and batteries convert chemical energy into electrical energy.
- Cells, batteries, generators and motors: Recognize that generators change kinetic energy into electrical energy.
