Electrical circuits outcomes10 objectives
  • Create and understand circuit diagrams that include cells, batteries, power supplies, switches, resistors (both fixed and variable), heaters, lamps, motors, ammeters, voltmeters, and fuses, and recognize how these components function within the circuit.
  • Understand that in a series circuit, the current remains constant at all points.
  • Learn how to build and utilize series and parallel circuits.
  • Create and interpret circuit diagrams that include generators and light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and understand how these components operate within the circuit.
  • Determine the total resistance when two or more resistors are connected in series.
  • Recognize the benefits of connecting lamps in parallel within a circuit.
  • Understand that in a parallel circuit, the current supplied by the source is greater than the current flowing through each individual branch.
  • Know that the total resistance of two resistors connected in parallel is lower than the resistance of either resistor alone.
  • Recall and apply in calculations the following principles: (a) the total current entering a junction in a parallel circuit equals the total current leaving it; (b) the total potential difference across components in a series circuit equals the sum of the individual potential differences; (c) the potential difference across each branch in a parallel circuit is the same as the potential difference across the entire arrangement.
  • Calculate the total resistance of two resistors connected in parallel.
