Paper 4Theory (Extended)2 marks

The behavior of gases is described by various laws, including the pressure-volume relationship.

Description

Gas Compression

A gas is compressed in a sealed container. As the volume decreases, the pressure increases. This is observed in various applications such as internal combustion engines and pneumatic systems.

  1. a

Show how the pressure of a gas changes when its volume is halved at constant temperature.

Aim for approximately 2 distinct marking points.

Paper 4Theory (Extended)1 marks

Description

Pressure-Volume Relationship

A gas is contained in a cylinder with a movable piston. When the piston is pushed in, the volume of the gas decreases, and the pressure increases. Conversely, pulling the piston out increases the volume and decreases the pressure.

  1. a

State the relationship between pressure and volume for a fixed mass of gas at constant temperature.

Aim for approximately 1 distinct marking point.
